Smell or olfaction is the ability to interpret smells. Our olfactory system uses the nose to receive information about the chemical makeup of particles in the air to determine if the smell is safe or harmful…and can also bring us great pleasure, like the smell of cookies baking. Smell is very intertwined with our sense of taste (gustatory), and the two together help us to perceive flavors, both good and bad!
